Tour passes

Passes are another effective way your tours get discovered. Listeners buy a pass to get a set of credits at a discounted price, then use those credits to unlock tours as they explore. Travellers who buy a multi-credit pass are already committed to exploring a destination in depth, which makes them exactly the kind of listener likely to find and redeem your tours. The discounted price lowers the barrier to that first redemption, and once they've redeemed a tour it's added to their library permanently, just like a direct purchase.
Pass royalties are calculated differently from direct purchases, so it's worth understanding how they work before you see them in your earnings. Passes are sold through the VoiceMap website and in-app purchase only, not through resellers.
For more about how passes work from the listener's perspective, see About Passes.
How pass credits work
Every pass contains a fixed number of credits, each of which unlocks one tour. Passes are scoped to a destination, a country, or the global catalogue, this means a London pass only unlocks London tours, while a United Kingdom pass works across the whole country.
Once a listener redeems a credit, that tour is added to their VoiceMap library permanently and can be replayed as many times as they like. Unredeemed credits do expire, however. All credits in a pass share the same expiry, calculated from the moment of purchase. For example, a pass valid for 7 days and purchased on a Monday at 9am will have its unredeemed credits expire the following Monday at 9am.
Pass royalties
Pass royalties are not based on the individual tour price. They are calculated from the pass price divided by the number of credits it contains, after the transaction fee is deducted. A royalty for a pass redemption will therefore usually be lower than for a direct purchase of the same tour.
Here's an example for a Paris 3-tour pass priced at $37.49, purchased via the website (processed through Stripe), at the standard 50% royalty rate:
The pass price is $37.49, after the Stripe fee of ~$1.66 gets deducted it leave a net of $35.83, which divided across 3 credits gives a per-credit value of $11.94. So the 50% royalty per redemption is $5.97.
The royalty payment will be the same for all three tours that the listener redeems, no matter if they're priced differently as individual tours.
Note: The exact Stripe fee in USD depends on the SGD exchange rate at the time of the transaction. The $0.50 SGD flat fee converts to roughly $0.35–$0.40 USD but can vary by a few cents.
